(Washington, D.C.) (October 31, 2018) <\/strong>Featuring 135 graduates from the Washington, D.C. and Online campuses, the October 26th<\/sup> Washington, D.C. Campus commencement ceremony capped off an exhilarating commencement season for The Chicago School.<\/p>\n

Between enthusiastic cheers of encouragement from the audience, graduates heard from an impressive lineup of speakers that included Honorary Degree Recipient Bertha Holliday, Ph.D., a community psychologist, former senior director, APA Ethnic Minority Affairs and lifelong civil rights advocate; and The Chicago School University President Michele Nealon, Psy.D.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is now up to each of you to find your place in the world and to define who exactly you want to be, and where you want to leave your mark,\u201d Dr. Nealon told the graduates. \u201cYour legacy is one that will develop over time, but if we have done our jobs well, it will be forever rooted in the mission you have come to know and that we all believe in so fervently.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dr. Holliday, who proudly shared how she walked her first picket line at the age of five, encouraged the graduates to use their newfound privilege as holders of advanced degrees to affect change in the world. She reminded them that with privilege should come responsibility.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2026through work and commitment, one\u2019s privilege, connections and authority can be used in a variety of ways to positively impact social justice issues,\u201d she promised. \u201c\u2026in today\u2019s world of divisiveness and zero-sum games, there are plenty of opportunities for you to engage in that type of direct effort where you can master the ethos, tactics and strategies of social justice and change.\u00a0 In addition, The Chicago School of Professional Psychology\u2026has well-armed you with the necessary tools for enhancing social justice throughout the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

Student Speaker De Andra Judge, M.A., a recent graduate of the Industrial\/Organizational Psychology Program reminded her fellow graduates that as new alumni of The Chicago School they are well equipped to create change and have an impact, while Distinguished Alumnae Rachel Altvater, Psy.D. wanted them to remember as they forge a new path, \u201cYou have talent. You are capable. And, you belong.\u201d<\/p>\n
