Biography

I have previously worked for TCSPP as both an Adjunct Faculty member and a SME. I have also been an Adjunct Faculty member for Webster University, Grand Canyon University, and the University of Cincinnati. I have been both a SME and an Instructor for Argosy University. I own a private practice where I see individuals, couples and families, addressing mental health, addiction, and LGBTQ+ specific issues. In addition to seeing clients, I provide training in the community to businesses, schools, and community groups. I also supervise interns who are completing clinical hours in both substance abuse and mental health.

I currently am co-advisor for the Student Interest Group for the CMHC Online program. I also serve on the Student Affairs Committee (SAC), the Admissions Committee, the Clinical Training Committee, and the Student Development Committee for the CMHC Online program. I am currently the ADP Manager for the Online CMHC Program.

Please describe your teaching philosophy.

My teaching philosophy is based on a belief that learning needs to be student centered and that students are equal partners in the learning process. My role involves using my expertise to put the necessary resources in the hands of the students.  This assures my students are more likely to be well equipped to find and evaluate the resources they need to answer their questions, thereby promoting growth both personally and professionally. Teaching is also multi-modal and needs to attend to the variances of the adult online learner.

Please provide a statement or philosophy regarding the practice of psychology.

Psychology surrounds us in all that we do. While some may not overtly have the awareness of it, psychology is acting on you, for you, and at times, against you. Psychology, and the science behind it, provides insight into our world, our interactions, and how our past, present, and future are connected. Exploring the areas of our minds and our behavior that are overlooked in other disciplines opens the door for growth from both physiological as well as psychological perspectives.

Why did you choose to enter the field of psychology?

Psychology, and understanding human behavior and the human mind, has intrigued me since I was very little. I was aware from an early age that everyone was unique and that variances should be seen as celebrations. I sought out opportunities to assist others in making improvements and to see "the silver lining". I intuitively knew to advocate for those who could not do it for themselves, and worked to help those who needed it the most.

What advice would you give to a student entering The Chicago School?

Follow your dreams and your passions. Believe in what you are learning. Trust the process. Build your support network from the beginning, and be sure to include classmates, friends, and family. Open yourself up to personal growth. And always practice self-care.
