Dr. Chris Marrero-Howiesen selected to lead Counseling Center at West Los Angeles

(LOS ANGELES) (OCTOBER 5, 2016) – The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, one of the leading nonprofit universities devoted exclusively to psychology, and related behavioral health sciences, is pleased to announce the appointment of Chris Marrero-Howieson, Psy.D. as director of its Counseling Center at West Los Angeles, one of two counseling centers The Chicago School operates in Southern California.

The Chicago School of Professional Psychology Counseling Centers, located in West Los Angeles and Irvine, provide high-quality and affordable mental healthcare to members of the greater Los Angeles and Orange County communities while also utilizing state-of-the-art training methods and supervision to prepare mental health clinicians-in-training to be skilled, highly ethical, culturally competent, and effective leaders.

In 2015, the West Los Angeles Counseling Center’s staff provided more than 7,000 hours of psychological services to community members on a sliding scale, based on income. Services are provided in Spanish, Creole, Farsi, Portuguese, Arabic, Italian, Czech, English, and Finnish. The Center is located at1990 Westwood Boulevard, Suite 330, Los Angeles.

In her role as Counseling Center Director, Dr. Marrero-Howieson is responsible for advancing the strategic direction of the Center while managing the daily functioning. She also assumes the role of training director for the Center’s Doctoral Internship Training Program in Professional Psychology, a program that provides broadly-based training to doctoral interns. A member of the Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers, the training program accepts two full-time interns each year.

“Dr. Marrero-Howieson comes to us with an outstanding background in health and counseling services that is well-suited to our needs,” said Dean Rishel, Ph.D., interim dean, Academic Affairs who oversees the campuses in Los Angeles and Irvine as well as the two Counseling Centers. “She is an experienced supervisor and mental health practitioner, skilled in the area of training in the doctoral and post-doctoral arena. Her leadership will help The Chicago School in its continuing efforts to cultivate engaged and competent clinicians and leaders prepared to make an impact in the communities they serve.”

Prior to joining The Chicago School, Dr. Marrero-Howieson served in several roles at California Polytechnic State University, including as a faculty psychologist, outreach coordinator, training co-director and assistant director for training. She has also worked as a mental health clinician for El Dorado County Health Services Department.
