MOU with LACCD provides new opportunities for students to pursue careers in psychology

(LOS ANGELES) (JULY 12, 2016)The Chicago School of Professional Psychology (TCSPP), a leading nonprofit graduate institution devoted to psychology, and related behavioral and health sciences, and Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD), the nation’s largest community college district, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) providing a new educational path for LACCD students to pursue a bachelors degree in psychology. The MOU provides all active LACCD students the opportunity to transfer to The Chicago School’s online Bachelor of Arts in Psychology Program under the Transfer Admission Guarantee.

“We are thrilled to be forging such a wonderful partnership with LACCD,” said Michele Nealon-Woods, Psy.D., president, The Chicago School. “Their institutional goals align with ours, the most important of which is to offer students an engaging educational experience that will serve them well in their lives and careers.”

An active LACCD student is defined as a student who has maintained active enrollment status and met specific transfer requirements for the 2015-2016 school year. These students are eligible for a partner tuition rate of 10% below the posted tuition costs and may be eligible for the Dean’s Scholarship.

“This is an exciting opportunity for our students to continue their education with experienced faculty and take advantage of the training opportunities The Chicago School provides,” said Francisco C. Rodriguez, Ph.D., LACCD chancellor.

Transfer criteria include maintaining a “C” or higher from an LACCD college, a minimum of 60 transferable semester units, 41 of which must meet specific General Education requirements; OR possess a conferred Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree in a traditional academic area of study with a minimum 2.0 GPA.

TCSPP’s online B.A. Program was first launched as a two-year completion program, but has expanded to four years. The Chicago School opened its Los Angeles campus in 2008, the first established outside of the Chicago area, and has been very successful bringing The Engaged Professional Model of Education to Southern California. TCSPP also has more than 150 community partners in the area that provide practicum, internship and volunteer opportunities for students and faculty.

“The MOU between The Chicago School and the Los Angeles Community College District is a significant milestone for our undergraduate program,” said Brandy Blount, Ph.D., department chair, B.A. Psychology Program. “The MOU will enhance and strengthen our program.”
