Continuing Education

The Office of Continuing Education (OCE) provides lifelong learning opportunities for professionals in the fields of psychology, health, business, counseling, and behavioral sciences. Those who seek to update their knowledge base and maintain licensure will have the support they need through the guidance of The Chicago School’s practitioner-scholars who relentlessly pursue the advancement of their field in local, national, and international communities.

Continuing Education Definitions

The Chicago School is approved to offer many types of continuing education credits. To enhance their skills or maintain licensure requirements, professionals must utilize the continuing education opportunity that corresponds to their field.  

Continuing Education Credits (CEC) – Psychologists

To offer CECs for psychologists, programming must follow the criteria established by the American Psychological Association (APA). Most licensing boards accept Continuing Education Credits sponsored by APA; non-psychologists are recommended to consult with their specific state licensing board to ensure that APA-sponsored CECs are accepted. 

Continuing Education Units (CEU) – Counselors, Social Workers, and Marriage and Family Therapists 

The CEU programs for LCPCs, LCSWs, and MFTs at The Chicago School follow the criteria outlined by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) and the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS). 

Professional Development Credits (PDC) – Human Resource Professionals 

To offer PDCs, programming must follow the criteria outlined by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). 

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) – School Psychologists 

To offer CPD for school psychologists, programming must follow the criteria established by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP). 

Continuing Professional Development Units (CPDU) – Educators 

Programs offering CPDUs for educators at The Chicago School follow the criteria outlined by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE). 

Discounts Offered

The Chicago School offers a number of discounts for certain courses, all of which offer CECs and CEUs. Alumni, site supervisors, students, and more can access bundles at a reduced price.
