Biography

Dr. Amy Sisson is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor-Supervisor with more than 25 years of experience in the mental health field, working primarily with victims of felony crime and first responders. She is a certified trauma specialist and Psychological Autopsy Investigator, with extensive expertise in supporting survivors of domestic violence and other violent crimes. Her professional background spans both nonprofit organizations and the criminal justice system.

In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Sisson has several years of experience in higher education. She serves as Teaching Faculty in the International Psychology Division at The Chicago School. With a strong focus on trauma, she is particularly passionate about teaching the intersection of culture and trauma and is recognized as a subject matter expert in Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and Suicidology. She has served the International Psychology department in multiple roles, including Dissertation Chair and Field Experience Faculty Lead, and finds particular fulfillment in mentoring students as they develop service-learning projects with real-world impact.

Dr. Sisson holds a PhD in International Psychology, a Master's degree in Professional Counseling, and a Bachelor's degree in Clinical Psychology. She currently serves as Membership Chair for APA Division 52, the Society for Global Psychology, and regularly delivers trauma-focused workshops to professionals across sectors including education, law enforcement, and healthcare. In addition, she has provided consultation to global organizations in Uganda, India, England, Romania, and the United States, offering guidance to ensure programs are culturally responsive and trauma-informed.
