Please describe your teaching philosophy. My teaching philosophy is based upon constructivism; I believe that everyone is capable of learning and that learning occurs in many ways. I also believe that a learner’s worldview affects how they learn and their ability to incorporate new information. As an educator I am committed to sharing my knowledge and to encourage learners to actively participate in the learning process. I am willing to approach learning from many different perspectives and employ various models of teaching instruction. My goal is to present learning material in a clear and concise manner that fosters a deeper and more meaningful understanding of the material. Learners are then able to practice autonomous learning, learn with others and balance teacher-control.
I believe that assessment of learners occurs on an ongoing basis. Assessment can be conducted visually through observation of interactions, on an auditory basis through active listening, and in writing through written assignments. Rubrics should be utilized to serve as a guide for the instructor and learner to allow them both the opportunity to assess how well the learners’ needs were met. Ideally as an educator I would like to know if the learner was able to subsume the material and is then able to practically apply it. I often solicit feedback from learners to ensure that I am meeting their needs and delivering the material effectively.
