Biography

Dr. April Demers is a passionate educator, program leader, and health advocate dedicated to advancing health equity and student success. As the Chair of the online Biomedical Sciences program at The Chicago School, she leverages her extensive experience to develop and lead innovative curricula that prepares future health professionals.

Previously, Dr. Demers served as the Director of Health Sciences at the University of Toledo, where she designed a curriculum centered on social determinants of health, evidence-based practices, and preparing students for graduate programs in the health professions. Prior to that, she led national efforts to reduce health disparities as Director of ProMedica's National Social Determinants of Health Institute, driving the integration of social needs into clinical care through scalable interventions. Her leadership in public health earned her the Congressional "Women Making History" award for her impactful work in opioid prevention initiatives.

Dr. Demers holds a PhD in Health Education with a focus on Public Health from the University of Toledo and a Master of Science in Strategic Leadership from Michigan State University. She is also a dedicated mentor, committed to preparing the next generation of health professionals to make meaningful contributions to science, healthcare, and community well-being.
