Biography

Bindu S. Mayi, MSc., PhD, MPH, is Discipline Lead and Professor of Immunology and Microbiology at the Illinois College of Osteopathic Medicine at The Chicago School. She is a microbiologist and public health professional whose work focuses on infectious disease prevention, antimicrobial stewardship, healthcare systems, medical education, and the responsible application of artificial intelligence to improve healthcare and learning. Her research spans infectious disease epidemiology, infection prevention, healthcare quality improvement, and the development of scalable, prevention-focused solutions that strengthen patient care and public health.

Dr. Mayi is passionate about preparing future physicians to think critically, collaborate across disciplines, and translate scientific evidence into compassionate clinical practice. She enjoys mentoring students in research and welcomes collaborations in infectious diseases, public health, medical education, AI in healthcare, quality improvement, and evidence synthesis through systematic, scoping, and narrative reviews

Volunteer; Board Member between 2006 and 2021 (therapy dog 501c3 non-profit) Share-A-Pet Org. Inc. - Managed over 500 pet therapy volunteer teams. o Trained volunteers and their dogs to be certified and insured pet therapy teams and placed them for regular visits to long-term care centers, hospitals, and children’s centers (including schools; we introduced the Pawsitive Reading program to help children learn to read). ▪ Formulated Infection Prevention guidelines for volunteer teams. ▪ Formulated Pawsitive Reading guidelines. o Led fundraising and friend-raising efforts for the non-profit and initiated the Annual Easter Egg Hunt for therapy dogs at the Fort Lauderdale Country Club.
