Catherine Baxtrom

Catherine "Katie" Baxtrom, DO, is an ABEM board-certified emergency physician with more than 15 years of experience practicing in high-acuity, high-volume emergency departments. She is an Assistant Professor and the founding Section Chief of Emergency Medicine at the Illinois College of Osteopathic Medicine (ILCOM), where she also directs the Professionalism in Medicine course and serves as the Emergency Medicine Clerkship Director.

Dr. Baxtrom earned her B.S. in Biology from Loyola University Chicago, where she was inspired to serve the underserved. She earned her medical degree from Midwestern University/Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. Drawn to emergency medicine by the privilege of caring for all patients regardless of their circumstances, she completed her emergency medicine residency at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York, one of the nation's busiest emergency departments.

Dr. Baxtrom is currently pursuing her MBA at Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management. Her professional interests include healthcare business and leadership, sepsis quality improvement and metrics, and physician well-being.
