Biography

Dr. Chance is originally from East St. Louis, Illinois and, relocated to Texas in 2018. Dr. Chance has 38 years of nursing experience. She earned her ADN in 1985 from State Community College in East St. Louis. She received her BSN from the University of Missouri-St. Louis, with MS in Healthcare and Nursing Administration, and DNP consecutively from Southern Illinois University- Edwardsville (SIUe), in Edwardsville, Illinois. Her Doctorate project was "Increasing Awareness in an Urban Middle School Community to Reduce Sugar-Sweetened Beverage Consumption."

Before relocating, Dr. Chance was a Clinical Assistant Professor at SIUe teaching undergraduate and graduate-level students in the area of Leadership and Community Health. Dr. Chance maintained an active presence in the community educating students by participating in various healthcare promotional events and community projects.

Dr. Chance believes that the fundamental goal of teaching is to foster learning. Learning takes place in many different circumstances and contexts. Although everyone is capable of learning, students desire to learn is a vital pre-condition to learn new concepts and skills.

Dr. Chance is a Certified Asthma Educator and is an active member of several professional societies, including Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society, Chi Eta Phi National Nursing Sorority, Association of Asthma Educators, and the American Nurses Association.
