Biography

I am the Director of Clinical Training for the Counselor Education Department - Online. I support both the MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling program - Online and the PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision program - Online. My primary roles are to assist students in fieldwork site placement, maintain communication with site supervisors and administrators, and coordinate fieldwork faculty, among other fieldwork related needs.

I am a licensed professional counselor and clinical supervisor in Texas with over 32 years of experience working in mental and behavioral health services. I have spent most of my career working in public agencies and private practice serving clients with learning and developmental disabilities, severe behavioral health concerns, the criminal justice and court systems (specifically specialty courts), inpatient and outpatient behavioral health services, and assisted living centers.

My clinical practice specialties include serious and persistent mental illness, developmental and life transitions, criminal justice and specialty court programs, court testimony and consultation, crisis intervention, adoption, and child custody. I have experience with children, adults, college students, and geriatric populations in individual, couples, and family counseling. I provide supervision to counselors-in-training from numerous colleges and universities around the US since becoming licensed many years ago.

My research interests include clinical supervision and supervision relationships, role-related identity development, rural behavioral health services, specialized courts and adult and juvenile justice systems. Additionally, I have an interest in social justice/advocacy - inclusion and diversity specifically related to neurodivergence populations such as ADHD, Autism, learning disorders, and processing disorders. I study contemplative practices as well as community consultation and collaboration and treatment issues related to serious and persistent mental illness.
