Biography
Dr. Allen is an organizational development practitioner currently focused on human resource (HR) analytics and organizational change management (OCM). In addition to practicing HR analytics and OCM consulting, Dr. Allen has led work in instructional design, development, and delivery, employee performance improvement, and leadership development and assessment. Additionally, Dr. Allen is trained to conduct leadership and emotional intelligence assessments and workshops. For the previous 16 years, Dr. Allen has consulted internally and externally with business leaders of Fortune 500 companies from various industries, small and mid-cap companies, non-profit organizations, and state and federal government.
As an affiliate faculty member at The Chicago School, Dr. Allen brings to bear his breadth of knowledge and experience to help develop new and continuing professionals in the field. Dr. Allen enjoys putting theory and research into practice, and when possible, conducting research to improve lives one organization at a time. His research interests are centered on several constructs, including emotional intelligence, organizational commitment, employee assessment, performance management, leadership assessment and effectiveness, and change management and organizational outcomes. Dr. Allen's dissertation investigated the relationship and predictability between emotional intelligence, organizational commitment, and patient safety among Registered Nurses.
Dr. Allen is a Chicago School of Professional Psychology alumnus with a PhD in Business Psychology, where he served as a Student Ambassador (Graduate/Teaching Assistant) and completed the Preparing Future Psychology Faculty program. Also, he earned a MA in Industrial-Organizational Psychology from Louisiana Tech University, and a BS in Psychology from Northwestern State University in Louisiana, where he was Vice President and President of the Psi Chi Chapter and an undergraduate member of a graduate research team.

Please describe your teaching philosophy. I teach in higher education because of a personal imperative to contribute to societal advancement. Society faces global challenges in many areas. Chief among them, although debatable, is improvement in social and psychological understanding, especially when applied to the world of work. As a faculty member, I am driven to help the next wave of new and continuing professionals face these global challenges with key knowledge and skills as well as how to apply these new skills to serve a diverse, global population.
To help develop new and continuing professionals in the field, I leverage a diverse background and set of experiences ranging from social and government services to professional corporate services. I tend to use my passion and vision for enhancing individual capability, helping individuals grow and develop, and supporting organizational enhancement as a positive influence in consulting and teaching. I thoroughly enjoy putting theory and research into practice.
