Biography

Dr. Olson is a licensed psychologist and licensed specialist in school psychology (school psychologist). She earned a BS in psychology with honors from the University of Iowa and her PhD in School Psychology from Texas A&M University, which is accredited by the American Psychological Association. She has worked extensively in public schools with children from preschool through high school. In addition to conducting psychological assessments, counseling, and consultation with parents, teachers, administrators and other professionals, Dr. Olson has coordinated an internship program, supervising both doctoral and specialist-level students.

Additional experiences have included conducting comprehensive multidisciplinary team autism assessments, working with adolescent boys with behavioral disorders in a residential treatment program, evaluating preschoolers in a Head Start program, and evaluating and counseling children and adolescents in private practice. Of particular interest is working with adolescents struggling with emotional and behavioral challenges. One of the benefits of working in public schools is coming into contact with people from diverse backgrounds and abilities, and continuing to expand her knowledge and experiences working with diverse populations is also a focus.

Currently, Dr. Olson runs the Child Lab on the Dallas campus, connecting students with opportunities to work with children and adolescents in schools. These experiences include working with small groups of elementary-aged students on emotional regulation, self-esteem, and anger management, as well as providing individual, family, and small group counseling to underserved populations as part of a grant. Dr. Olson co-wrote and leads a study abroad course which includes taking students to Botswana to work with children and adolescents, many of whom have been diagnosed with HIV or AIDS. In addition to her duties at The Chicago School, Dr. Olson is secretary of the Collin County Psychological Association (CCPA).
