Biography
Dr. Gina B. Polychronopoulos is an active and prolific practitioner-scholar, bringing over 15 years of experience performing applied research, authoring peer-reviewed publications, facilitating workshops, and presenting at professional conferences. She earned a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from Old Dominion University in Virginia, where she also earned an M.S.Ed in Counseling and an M.S. in Psychology. She is also a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Virginia. Throughout her career in mental health, Dr. Polychronopoulos served in a variety of settings including acute inpatient, residential, community-based, outpatient, assessment and diagnostic evaluation, and clinical research. She has authored 17 peer-reviewed publications, two book chapters, and delivered over 30 presentations on counseling, mental health, and other related topics. Her research interests in counseling include evidence-based practice, diagnosis and assessment, and counselor education and supervision.
In recent years, Dr. Polychronopoulos has emerged as a leader in the higher education assessment profession, with demonstrated success engaging in interdisciplinary collaboration, learning outcomes assessment, and program evaluation. Her recent scholarship focuses on professional identity, competencies, and strengths-based, collaborative practice in higher education assessment. Dr. Polychronopoulos is most proud of her work as co-author of Humanizing the Assessment Process: How RARE Model Informs Best Practices, originally published in RPA journal in 2019. She has authored three peer-reviewed articles and delivered 11 presentations about the RARE Model, which articulates a framework of interpersonal strategies for engaging in assessment practice through a counselor lens and emphasizes relationship-building as paramount to success. Dr. Polychronopoulos is passionate about service and committed to interdisciplinary, collaborative practice. She employs a person-centered, strengths-based approach and strives to nurture a positive, inclusive culture of inquiry in all professional endeavors.
