Biography

I'm Joseph Okwo, and I serve as a Project Coordinator for the Illinois College of Osteopathic Medicine.

My professional background sits at the intersection of project management, operations, and student-centered support. Before joining IllinoisCOM, I gained experience leading complex initiatives in higher education, healthcare, and digital operations, with a focus on building systems that help teams work smoothly and students navigate their academic journey with confidence.

What really drives me is the 'people' aspect of my work. As a first-generation graduate and former international student, I understand the challenges of starting something new, whether it's an academic program, a career step, or life in a different city.

In my work here, I'm committed to helping create a medical school environment that is organized, supportive, and full of opportunities for students to grow. I'm always happy to connect, support, and point you to the right resources.

Question and Answer
What advice would you give to a student entering The Chicago School?

I always tell students to treat this experience as both a learning journey and a personal transformation, be curious, ask questions early and often, and don’t hesitate to introduce yourself to faculty, staff, or classmates. The Chicago School has a strong community, and students thrive when they build relationships and use the support around them.

At the same time, give yourself permission to grow at your own pace; graduate school will stretch you in new ways, and that’s a good thing. Stay organized, stay open, and remember you’re not doing this alone, there’s an entire network of people here who want to see you succeed, and I’m one of them.
