Biography
Dr. Johnson received his PhD from the University of Florida in Clinical and Health Psychology. He was a Postdoctorate Fellow in Pediatric Behavioral Medicine at Boston Children's Hospital/ Harvard Medical School and completed his internship at Boston City Hospital's Center for Multicultural Training in Psychology. He was the Pain Management Coordinator at Kaiser Permanente in Washington DC and Maryland and was on the faculty at Howard University's Psychology Department for several years.
Dr. Johnson's clinical interests include an adjustment to chronic illness, pain management in medical populations, and ethnocultural factors in health and illness. His research is concerned with perceived control and health behaviors; learned helplessness in arthritis and chronic pain, and cultural issues in chronic illness. He has served as a pain management coordinator for Kaiser Permanente in the DC metropolitan area providing services to children, adolescents, and adults with chronic pain. Dr. Johnson is a licensed psychologist in both the District of Columbia and Maryland and is a grant reviewer for the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) on topics related to pain management, behavioral medicine, suicide, and multi-cultural competence
