Biography

Dr. Lauren Thorne has been a member of The Chicago School community since 2009, first as a graduate student and then as adjunct faculty. Dr. Thorne earned an Ed.S. degree at TCS in 2012 and then an Ed.D. degree at TCS in 2015 (both in School Psychology). Dr. Thorne began teaching as adjunct faculty for the School Psychology department in 2015. Dr. Thorne has always been passionate about working with under-resourced and underprivileged populations and communities. She wrote her dissertation on reading intervention for Black male adolescents in high school. She serves as an officer on the National Association of School Psychologists' (NASP's) Sexual Orientation and Gender Diversity Committee. At TCS, Dr. Thorne has taught eight different courses in the School Psychology department but has specialized in teaching behavior assessment, educational assessment, and diversity in clinical practice. Dr. Thorne has served as course lead and has re-designed several courses for the department. She was awarded Adjunct Faculty of the Year on the Chicago campus in spring 2024, having been nominated by students and colleagues. Outside of TCS, Dr. Thorne worked for many years as a full-time school psychologist in Chicagoland suburbs and for Chicago Pubic Schools. More recently, she has focused on her role in academia, while balancing time at home being a mom to her two young boys.
