Biography
Dr. Riso earned his PhD in clinical psychology at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. He completed his clinical internship at Brown University Internship Consortium, and a postdoctoral fellowship in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Dr. Riso has served on the faculty at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and was a faculty member in the departments of psychology at Georgia State University and the University of Georgia. His scholarly interests include cognitive-behavioral therapy, schema therapy (an integrative model of psychotherapy), couples therapy, psychopathology, suicide prevention, anxiety disorders, personality disorders, and depression. Dr. Riso is an active scholar with more than 50 published articles and book chapters. He has received federal funding from the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH); has an edited book, Cognitive Schemas and Core Beliefs in Psychological Problems; and is the past president of the local chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP).
