Biography

Dr. Lilenfeld is a Full Professor. She was previously Full Professor in the Clinical Psychology Program at the American School of Professional Psychology in Northern Virginia, as well as an Associate Professor and Associate Director of Clinical Training at Georgia State University's PhD Clinical Psychology program. She completed her internship and three-year NIMH post-doctoral fellowship at Western Psychiatric Institute in Pittsburgh. She earned her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Minnesota and her B.S. in Human Development from Cornell University. Dr. Lilenfeld's program of research is focused upon identifying risk factors for eating disorders, particularly personality traits. She has over 50 peer-reviewed publications and has made more than100 national and international conference presentations. She is the recipient of numerous grants and continues to serve as a collaborator on a large, ongoing international genetic study of eating disorders. She is an Elected Fellow of the Academy for Eating Disorders, an elected member of the Eating Disorders Research Society, and past President of the Eating Disorders Coalition for Research, Policy, and Action. She is a member of the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, as well as the Association for the Advancement of Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies. Her clinical work is focused upon the use of cognitive-behavioral therapy for the treatment of eating disorders, OCD and anxiety disorders among adults and adolescents. Dr. Lilenfeld has been interviewed by a number of television (e.g., ABC news) and newspaper (e.g., USA Today, WebMD) organizations regarding her eating disorders work, and she has her own part-time private practice.
