Biography
Dr. Mulvihill is an experienced clinician and researcher, specializing in Mindfulness & Health Psychology. She teaches core courses in the Applied Clinical Psychology program including Practicum, Psychopathology, Professional Development, and Applied Clinical Psychology Comps Prep. She has been a mindfulness practitioner for 32 years. She often teaches electives in Dream Analysis, Mindfulness-Based Approaches, and Jungian psychology.
She has extensive training in Public Health, including Epidemiology, Behavioral Health Promotion, Preventive Medicine and Geriatric Psychology. She has a keen interest in Sleep Medicine and CBT-Insomnia. Pain management, medication adherence, medical regimen challenges and exercise/nutrition round out her health related background. Dr. Mulvihill's research and community work have focused on designing culturally tailored behavioral intervention to under-served communities, particularly low income Latinas and their children.She has designed diabetes prevention programs in the community for youth, women, and post-partum for Latinas with gestational diabetes.
Dr. Mulvihill also has an abiding interest in using innovative approaches for managing stress and healing trauma. This includes using expressive arts, poetry therapy, somatic interventions, hypnosis, dream interpretation, & trauma-informed mindfulness strategies. Dr. Mulvihill has received advanced training in Ericksonian hypnosis, dream interpretation (including Dream Tending) and Soul Collage. Her latest interest combines these into Ecopsychotherapy, a new integrative discipline which brings nature and indigenous wisdom into depth psychology approaches to help find a sustainable balance.
Dr. Mulvihill is a docent at the San Diego Botanical Garden and a published poet with a love of nature. She enjoys exploring how poetic language, music & images can spark the imagination, enhance creativity, revive the spirit, and aid transformation.
