Biography
Throughout a diverse 19-year career that has encompassed many aspects of higher education in California, Dr. Valenzuela brings a wealth of experience to his position as the Director of Accreditation, Licensure, and State Authorization department. He originally began as a Department Manager in Southern California. He guided his way through the ranks at his previous institution working in different departments to further his knowledge within higher education. Prior to his arrival at The Chicago School, Dr. Valenzuela was the Research Specialist at the Southern California University of Health Sciences (SCUHS). His areas of interest and expertise include communications, student success, leadership and diversity in higher education. He has extensive experience in educational research, financial aid, student recruitment, accreditation, and strategic planning.
Dr. Valenzuela began his career as a Student Generalist at California State Fullerton, where he himself was a student. From there he expanded and took his skills into areas of Financial Aid, Federal Work Study, Recruitment and Counseling, and Institutional Research with SCUHS. Miguel has participated in many committees, and is comfortable with leadership roles.
Miguel holds a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Communications, and a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration: Education Leadership from Liberty University. Continuing his own education lends to his desire for it, as he states, "I've grown up in higher education, it is something I love and have a passion for.
