Biography

Dr. Mirsad Serdarević currently serves as an Associate Professor and Associate Chair of Applied Clinical Psychology at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, San Diego campus. Before joining TCSPP he served as a Program Supervisor for Clinical Psychology and Behavioral Health Consultation Programs within the Center for Behavioral Health at Palomar Health, and he also served as an Adjunct Psychology Faculty at the California State University, San Marcos. He completed his APA-accredited pre-doctoral psychology internship at the University of Southern California and his post-doctoral psychology fellowship at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada.

Dr. Serdarević also served as a civilian Clinical Psychologist at Navy Medical Center, San Diego, as an Assistant Director of Clinical Operations & Psychologist at the University of California, Merced, CA, and as an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Health Behavior at the Medical College of Georgia School of Medicine. He also served as a visiting Assistant Professor of Psychology at the International University of Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Dr. Serdarević has published extensively in the area of motivational interviewing within primary care, college student mental health, geriatric, psychiatric, and medical contexts. He also published in the area of cultural diversity with a focus on immigrant mental health, trauma, and cultural differences in anxiety, depression and bereavement. Interests: cultural diversity, culturally-sensitive clinical interventions, motivational interviewing, substance use disorders, psychotherapy with older adults, psychopathology, PTSD, primary care and behavioral and psychopharmacology treatments, and bereavement. Dr. Serdarević has presented internationally including at the International University of Sarajevo and the University of Sarajevo.
