Biography

Dr. Natasha Wheeler earned a Bachelor of Sciences in Biology from Lewis & Clark College, Portland, Oregon. She holds a Masters of Arts and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Individual, Child and Family from California School of Professional Psychology, Alliant International University, Los Angeles. While in graduate school and as a post-doctorate, Dr. Wheeler worked for Rochelle Caplan, M.D. at the University of California Los Angeles at the Neuropsychiatric Institute as a research assistant conducting neuropsychological tests, psychiatric interviews, rating non-verbal communication, affect, and the formal thought disorder, as well as training students in research techniques and data collection. Dr. Wheeler completed an internship at Catholic Charities in Los Angeles working mainly with multi-ethnic adults with depression, sexual trauma, and relational issues as well as Glen Roberts Child Study Center providing therapy and conducting psychological assessments with underserved youth. She completed a two year post-doctoral fellowship at Reiss-Davis Child Study Center providing psychotherapy from a psychodynamic perspective. Prior to joining the Chicago School of Professional Psychology in the past year as core faculty in the Clinical Department, Dr. Wheeler worked for various community agencies in the greater Los Angeles area overseeing a Clinical Internship Program, School Readiness Program, and FSP and School based Mental Health programs for underserved, multi-ethnic, low-income babies, children, adolescents and their families.

Dr. Wheeler has taught in both the Clinical Department and Forensic Department at the Los Angeles Campus. Areas of interest include Family Systems, Psychodynamic Therapy, Perinatal and Infant Mental Health, Attachment, Child and Adolescent Interventions and Assessment, Child Health Psychology, Qualitative Research, Grief and Loss, Trauma and its Neuropsychological implications, and Eating Disorders. Dr. Wheeler is working on a service-learning project focusing on suicide prevention and promoting family cohesion. She is also developing a research project with students looking at ACES and neuropsychological issues in at risk youth.
