Biography

Hello and welcome to The Chicago School,

I am a community pharmacist working for a grocery chain helping patients improve their lives with medication therapy and education. I graduated in 2011 from the University of Illinois-Chicago College of Pharmacy with a doctorate and obtained a job in South Texas since I am bilingual. I am licensed in five states and have worked for several different organizations until I made my way back to Central Illinois. I decided to go back to school a few years ago and earned a master's in clinical psychopharmacology in 2023. Now, I currently teach for the same program as well as a nurse practitioner program for Chamberlain University. As you can see, I live to keep busy.

I live alone, well with my two babies. My dachshund, Bella and my tortoise, Murtle. They are both the loves of my life. As the saying goes, "I work hard to make sure my babies have everything they want". \

I look forward to meeting you as we work together to better our lives as well as others that we serve.

Question and Answer
Please describe your teaching philosophy.

I believe that learning does not stop at any age. With proper guidance, social interactions amongst peers, and participation from students as well as educators, the experience can be a great, successful rewarding experience. Students are not the only learners, educators also continue to learn from their students, and this provides a better understanding of the needs for future students and continues to enhance and update the material as needed to continue to motivate future learners and provide the best services to all that we serve and better outcomes for everyone we encounter.

Please provide a statement or philosophy regarding the practice of psychology.

"The practice of psychology is a commitment to understanding the human mind, respecting the complexities of individual experiences, and fostering growth and resilience. It is grounded in evidence-based methods, guided by empathy and ethical principles, and dedicated to the empowerment of individuals to lead fulfilling lives. Psychology seeks not only to alleviate distress but to nurture the inherent strengths within each person, ultimately aiming for a more empathetic and mentally healthy society."

Why did you choose to enter the field of psychology?

I try to reach all patients that come to my pharmacy, but at times you just have to know how to go about it. It's hard to read some people especially those dealing with mental illness. Some do not want to discuss their medication regimen, and others claim to not know why they need the medication, but their prescriber advised for them to continue taking it and refuse to speak about their medications. Learning to better understand what is going through their mind and making them feel comfortable with me is a great plus. I was better able to understand the idea for medication combinations that I was not taught in pharmacy school, since this topic is something, we barely touch base on. Now, I am able to better serve these patients when I strike up a conversation in different ways that puts them at ease and helps them realize that I understand where they are coming from. I'm able to reach a greater community and that is means a great deal to me.

What advice would you give to a student entering The Chicago School?

Be ready to change the world. Your journey will be as rewarding as it is challenging.

Psychology is vast, so embrace every opportunity to learn from different perspectives. Form relationships with your peers and professors. Networking is invaluable in this field. Keep questioning and exploring, read from research articles to classic theories. Real-world experience will deepen your understanding. Always maintain integrity and respect for the individuals and communities you will serve. But most of all, it's crucial to practice self-care while studying a demanding subject.
