Dr. Richard Gonzalez, MD
Lead Anatomist, Illinois College of Osteopathic Medicine
Dr. Richard Gonzalez is a former U.S. Army Orthopedic Surgeon with over 30 years of clinical and leadership experience. Following a wrist injury sustained during deployment to Afghanistan, he transitioned from operative practice to medical education, dedicating himself to advancing the teaching of human anatomy and the biomedical sciences. He has taught undergraduate anatomy, physiology, and human biology at Seminole State College and Valencia College in Orlando, Florida, and contributed extensively as a volunteer in the cadaver laboratory at the University of Central Florida College of Medicine.
As Foundational Sciences Faculty Anatomy Lead at the Illinois College of Osteopathic Medicine, Dr. Gonzalez is at the forefront of educational innovation. He designs immersive, technology-enhanced curricula that blend plastinated specimens, 3D modeling, VR/AR environments, advanced imaging integration, and clinical reasoning frameworks grounded in osteopathic principles. His work focuses on building transformative anatomical learning experiences that prepare students for modern, patient-centered medical practice.
