Travis Johnson, PhD (Dr. Johnsie) is part of the Marriage and Family Therapy Department's core faculty.
He was born and raised in rural NC. He completed a BSc in Psychology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a Masters' Degree at Syracuse University, and a doctorate at Michigan State University. While earning my master's and doctorate degrees, he began working as a private practice practitioner, clinical supervisor, teaching assistant, and instructor of record.
In scholarship and research, he has participated in projects that focus on child development, family therapy with family systems with members from underrepresented and marginalized groups, and how systems of oppression and privilege impact human development.
His primary modes of therapy include emotionally focused, attachment, narrative, and cognitive-behavioral therapy. He adapts his practice of therapy to each client's uniqueness and customizes the therapeutic encounter based on the client's goals.
He offers specialized treatment in the following areas: anxiety, PTSD, depression, marital and relationship issues, infidelity, family issues, members of the LGBTQIA community, African-American families, and couples.
