Biography
Dr. Thompson is a business psychologist who is devoted to uniting consulting and teaching. Her main focus is positive organizational behavior, positive psychology, neuropsychology and psychological capital. This involves applying self-efficacy, resilience, hope, optimism, mindfulness and human strengths in organizational settings. She leads a group of doctoral students who conduct research in this area by applying these principles to training, organizational change and employee engagement. Her consulting work focuses on increasing employee engagement and positive culture through training and behavioral reinforcement principles. Her training expertise includes strength based leadership, growth mindset, positive culture, continuous learning organization, positive goal setting, confidence and creativity, resilience, positive thinking and habits.
She has been with the Chicago School since 2002 and was formerly involved in higher education administration at the Chicago School, specializing in student learning and assessment. She has given presentations and authored publications on subjects that include psychological capital, employee engagement, affirmative action, stereotypes, student learning and assessment as well as failure in the workplace. Dr. Thompson's prior teaching experience includes Northwestern University, Illinois Institute of Technology, Northeastern Illinois University, Chicago State University, and the University of Memphis. She previously worked for Organizational Effectiveness Consultants, United Airlines, Microsoft and American Academy of Pediatrics. This work included development and validation of selection systems, 360-degree feedback, survey design and implementation, assessment centers, research and adverse impact analysis.
