My research interests span both experimental and applied realms. My current research is in collaboration with the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden where, through research, we work to create environments that allow for animals to behave as naturally as possible and enhance their welfare. I am also very interested in how technological innovations (such as microcontrollers, radio frequency identification, etc.) can be used to aid in data collection and behavior modification. I tend to build my own equipment that allows for automated, systematic data collection in non-traditional environments, where much of my research takes place.
I am currently serving as President of the Applied Animal Behavior Special Interest Group, a group through the Association of Behavior Analysis International. I also sit on the board of directors for the National Applied Animal Behaviorists.
