Criminal Activity | The Chicago School
Criminal Activity
In accordance with federal regulations, and through each location’s Facilities department, the institution will report all felonies and serious misdemeanors, which are reported to them or they observe or view, to the local police department via 911 as soon as possible. Reporting will occur regardless of whether the victim/complainant refuses to cooperate in the investigation or has a change of mind about reporting the crime. Furthermore, the institution will provide statistics on these crimes in its annual security report.
For lesser misdemeanors against the institution, (e.g., minor damage to property), the Facilities department will consult with the Senior Director of Facilities and Real Estate Planning about reporting to the local police department.
For lesser misdemeanors perpetrated against a person (student, faculty, staff, or visitor), victims will be encouraged and assisted by the campus Director of Business Operations to report the crime to local authorities. If the victim refuses to notify police, the Director of Business Operations will note “victim refuses” when reporting the incident but will proceed to report the alleged crime to the police if warranted or deemed advisable by the administration.
Once informed of a crime, The Chicago School is committed to helping the victim feel safe, secure, and free from further harm. The Chicago School will make all attempts to provide a calm and supportive environment for the victim. When a victim approaches an administration official who has primary responsibility for students and/or campus activities with intent to report alleged crime, the victim will be informed of The Chicago School reporting responsibilities before any information is revealed.
The following is a list of some of the crime prevention programs and projects implemented at The Chicago School campuses:
- Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) Surveillance: CCTV is used throughout The Chicago School campuses.
- Institution Photo Identification Card (ID): Each Chicago School faculty, staff, and student is issued a The Chicago School photo identification card. This card is needed to gain access to various areas of campus and building stairwells where applicable. This card must be carried at all times.
- Electronic Door Access: Major points of entry into areas of campus are controlled with electronic access doors. In addition, the commercial buildings that campuses are located within may also be controlled with electronic doors and/or entry turnstiles. Some of these doors require a campus-issued ID card to gain entry, while others may be opened on a consistent basis during regular business hours of the campus.
