Student Resources at IllinoisCOM

A System Built To Support You

The Chicago School has built a system of resources and services to support you during your entire osteopathic medical school experience—including housing resources, dedicated faculty coaches, targeted resources to support licensure exam success, a comprehensive approach toward student wellness, and more.

Learning Resources

Learning Communities

Serving as the foundation of the IllinoisCOM student experience, learning communities are close-knit cohorts of students, faculty, and staff that foster a sense of camaraderie and collaboration, enabling students to learn from and support one another throughout their medical education. Each learning community is supported by a dedicated faculty and/or staff member who offers resources and provides support to help students navigate medical school.

Faculty Coaches

IllinoisCOM faculty are trained to implement an academic coaching framework with students. Academic coaches help learners identify goals, cultivate a personalized strategy to achieve those goals, and develop skills of self-management and self-reflection. Working collaboratively with the student, their mentors, and student support advisors, academic coaches provide an impactful, individualized, and efficient network of academic support.

Office of Student Writing and Learning

The Office of Student Writing and Learning (OSWL) helps students become more effective communicators. The OSWL is also home to IllinoisCOM’s peer mentoring and tutoring initiatives and learning specialists. Learning specialists work with students to improve their studying, test-taking, and time-management skills, as well as conduct workshops and strategy sessions for licensure exam preparation, remediation, and course success.

IllinoisCOM provides extensive resources throughout your entire education to ensure you approach major licensure exams with confidence. Our data-driven approach toward COMLEX-USA success includes integrated board-style assessments, licensure exam readiness assessments, and a supportive learning environment geared toward individualized feedback.

Student Wellness

Your personal wellness is our top priority. The Student Wellness department is dedicated to promoting your holistic development through comprehensive programming, services, and individualized interventions. Dedicated mental health counselors offer on-site support, and students can also access online counseling services 24/7.

Military and Veteran Support

The Chicago School is a proud Yellow Ribbon institution that is honored to support the service and commitments of active-duty and reserve service members, veterans, and their spouses and dependents.
